AmazingLove the series as it is so refreshing to have a reality programme that is so 'real'。 We are invited to be audience to a wild and wonderful life 。 The book is so Amanda。 She tells it like it is warts n all。 Very well written and informative regarding the history of the farm。 Amanda is funny and the stories she tells about life in the farm make you smile。 Lovely read。 Highly recommended。 AmazingLove the series as it is so refreshing to have a reality programme that is so 'real'。 We are invited to be audience to a wild and wonderful life 。 The book is so Amanda。 She tells it like it is warts n all。 Very well written and informative regarding the history of the farm。 Amanda is funny and the stories she tells about life in the farm make you smile。 Lovely read。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

I don't do book reviewsI don't do book reviews like you keep seeing, as I find that some give too much of the plot away and I personally hate that, as it makes the book not worth reading。 I much prefer to take the authors back cover write up as a review as it can either intrigue you enough to read the book of provide you enough information to make you decide that the book is not for you。My review rules are: The more stars, the more I liked it。If there are too many typos or errors the less stars I don't do book reviewsI don't do book reviews like you keep seeing, as I find that some give too much of the plot away and I personally hate that, as it makes the book not worth reading。 I much prefer to take the authors back cover write up as a review as it can either intrigue you enough to read the book of provide you enough information to make you decide that the book is not for you。My review rules are: The more stars, the more I liked it。If there are too many typos or errors the less stars I giveIf the storyline or plot is poor or contains too many errors, the characters are too weak, the ending lacking something, then the less stars I give。Simple, uncomplicated and to the point without giving anything away。Some of the books I read have been given to me by the author as a pre-release copy and this does not bias my reviews in any way。 。。。more

This book sticks in my mind , years after reading it。 I loved it and hated leaving the farm she set me in temporarily。

Nice, light escapism into the Yorkshire countryside。 So many of the anecdotes shared here remind me of stories told by my Mum and Grandfather (a Yorkshire pig farmer), this book brought back fond memories of trips in his landrover to ‘go to see a man about a dog’。 Ravenseat’s allure is evident。 A book for those who have dreamt of having some land and livestock, have their own small flock of children, or a interest in or fondness for Yorkshire。

I loved this book。 So well written and this down to earth, lovely family are a delight to read about。 I have the rest of the series ready to read now。

Both me and my children absolutely love watching the programmes and get so excited when we see any adverts mentioning the family will be featured。 I decided 26 hours ago to read this book and my 7 year old insisted I read it aloud to her, we’ve have been totally engrossed reading the first ten chapters one after another until bedtime and she was equally excited to finish the rest as soon as she woke up。 We have loved every minute of it and can’t wait to read the other 3 books。 Thank you for shar Both me and my children absolutely love watching the programmes and get so excited when we see any adverts mentioning the family will be featured。 I decided 26 hours ago to read this book and my 7 year old insisted I read it aloud to her, we’ve have been totally engrossed reading the first ten chapters one after another until bedtime and she was equally excited to finish the rest as soon as she woke up。 We have loved every minute of it and can’t wait to read the other 3 books。 Thank you for sharing your beautiful life with us。 。。。more

I've loved watching this family on all the TV shows they have been in over the years and love all farming programmes。 So being able to see in my mind what she is describing about her farming life adds to the enjoyment of the book。 This is excellently written and you hear Clive & Amanda jumping off every page! The love for all their animals, farming in general, Ravenseat as a home and the wildness of their remote address shines through on every page。 I've loved watching this family on all the TV shows they have been in over the years and love all farming programmes。 So being able to see in my mind what she is describing about her farming life adds to the enjoyment of the book。 This is excellently written and you hear Clive & Amanda jumping off every page! Brilliant! I haven't watched the show so was unsure how I would find the book but didn't need to worry, it was so fab, so endearing and almost makes you want to give it all up and go off grid! We have been watching this series on TV and are enjoying it so much that I thought I would buy the books。 This first one is as engaging as the TV show。 I love the simplicity of their life at Ravenseat。 There’s a lot of hard work involved but everyone chips in and has a part。

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Amanda Owen's memoir。 She grew up in a small British city, but decided early on that she wanted to work with animals。 This started as an obsession with James Herriot's books the corresponding television show, "All Creatures Great and Small。" She studied veterinary nursing in college and began a career as a free-lance shepherdess。 She would rent herself out to farmers for days, weeks or months to help care for livestock - especially sheep。 Eventually she meets Clive O I thoroughly enjoyed reading Amanda Owen's memoir。 She grew up in a small British city, but decided early on that she wanted to work with animals。 This started as an obsession with James Herriot's books the corresponding television show, "All Creatures Great and Small。" She studied veterinary nursing in college and began a career as a free-lance shepherdess。 She would rent herself out to farmers for days, weeks or months to help care for livestock - especially sheep。 Eventually she meets Clive Owen, a divorced sheep farmer who lived in the Swaledale district of Yorkshire, high in the northern moors。 At the age of 21, she joined him at his farm, Ravenseat。 They married and proceeded to have not only sheep, cattle and a few horses, but a flock of children。Amanda Owen's writing style is engaging, but also casual。 She uses a lot of Yorkshire slang which sometimes makes the reading a bit tricky。 It is, however, fascinating to see how this young woman adjusts to her new life and the everchanging chaos of animals and children。 。。。more

I've watched all 3 series during lockdown and thoroughly enjoyed them。 What an amazing family in an equally amazing location。 Amanda and Clive should be very proud of how they have brought up their children - they are a credit to them。 Shame more kids aren't like this - all helping each other, not plugged into the TV or other devices and not afraid of working hard。 The Yorkshire dialect was a bit OTT in places。 An entertaining read。 I've watched all 3 series during lockdown and thoroughly enjoyed them。 What an amazing family in an equally amazing location。 Amanda and Clive should be very proud of how they have brought up their children - they are a credit to them。 Shame more kids aren't like this - all helping each other, not plugged into the TV or other devices and not afraid of working hard。 The Yorkshire dialect was a bit OTT in places。 An entertaining read。 。。。more

Like so many others I first encountered Amanda Owen and her family in the utterly charming documentary following the familys life during a whole year。 Already then I was taken aback with the attitude and the storytelling of the familys life。 Owens book only enhances that image and gives the reader even more。Amanda Owen is also a great role model as a woman who can and has done almost "all": had kids, had her dream and still has enough energy to think ahead。 What makes this book enjoyable is that Like so many others I first encountered Amanda Owen and her family in the utterly charming documentary following the familys life during a whole year。 Already then I was taken aback with the attitude and the storytelling of the familys life。 Owens book only enhances that image and gives the reader even more。Amanda Owen is also a great role model as a woman who can and has done almost "all": had kids, had her dream and still has enough energy to think ahead。 What makes this book enjoyable is that times are sometimes tough on farms and she and her husband Clive make mistakes but they are not afraid to tell about them。 So the perfect sounding farm life with kids isn't always so perfect。A cheerful, modern update to the Herriots and other shepherding books out there。 。。。more

If you like the TV programme "Our Yorkshire Farm" you will like this book。 This was a fun, light read。 Amanda is an inspiration with her determination, hard work and unique but awesome way of bringing up her many children and I enjoyed finding out more about her life and her family in this book。 If you like the TV programme "Our Yorkshire Farm" you will like this book。 This was a fun, light read。 Amanda is an inspiration with her determination, hard work and unique but awesome way of bringing up her many children and I enjoyed finding out more about her life and her family in this book。 。。。more

I enjoyed listening to Amanda Owen's book in the audible version, especially as it is so different from anything else I have read/listened to。 It was good to read about someone else's life that is so vastly different from mine, and how she and her husband have a 'can do' approach to life。 I found it inspiring and heart warming as well as quite funny in several places。 It also made me appreciate far more how hard farmers work。 I shall definitely be reading/listening to any more books she writes。 I enjoyed listening to Amanda Owen's book in the audible version, especially as it is so different from anything else I have read/listened to。 It was good to read about someone else's life that is so vastly different from mine, and how she and her husband have a 'can do' approach to life。 I found it inspiring and heart warming as well as quite funny in several places。 It also made me appreciate far more how hard farmers work。 I shall definitely be reading/listening to any more books she writes。 。。。more

Being a Yorkshire lass myself I always wonder what life is like on the many farms we pass and she has given me some insight in an entertaining way。 When life ever feels tough I just need to think about putting a shift in at Ravenseat and will soon change my mind。 I’d like to read more of her work and catch the family on tv。 The only thing I would say was a bit samey in this book was the amount of human births that she had。 She is a very busy bee all round!!

Tamara Oates

I LOVED this book from start to end。 I can’t wait to start my own flock of sheep。This book is so inspiring and informative for both those interested in agriculture and those who aren’t。Life got in the way, so it took a while to read。 When I got chance to read, I didn’t want to put the book down。

Nick King

Loved this book。 The inspiring, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and always very honest sorry about the highs and lows of bringing up a family and caring for animals om a remote farm on the North Ýorkshire Moors

Mairéad

I really enjoy reading about places I’m in or have been; this is no exception。 It reads like a journal more than gripping storytelling。 However I did enjoy learning more about this way of life。
